This article analyses the role of the canonical Francesc Dessì in Cagliari, who lived between the first and the second half of the Sixteenth century. The study begins with his biographic profile, interesting to understand the training and professional services, but also the dynamics of family and property. This is followed by the study of the private library of Dessì, whose inventory is stored in the register of the notary Joan Tamarit. The approximately 280 titles in the library allow some considerations on the readings of a canon of the Chapter citizen, and allow short notes on the book market in Cagliari in the Sixteenth century.

Abstract

This article analyses the role of the canonical Francesc Dessì in Cagliari, who lived between the first and the second half of the Sixteenth century. The study begins with his biographic profile, interesting to understand the training and professional services, but also the dynamics of family and property. This is followed by the study of the private library of Dessì, whose inventory is stored in the register of the notary Joan Tamarit. The approximately 280 titles in the library allow some considerations on the readings of a canon of the Chapter citizen, and allow short notes on the book market in Cagliari in the Sixteenth century.
