The TeleGIS Laboratory of the University of Cagliari, through a National Operating Program financed on 2003, has activated a system of direct reception of TERRA and AQUA satellites data from the MODIS sensor. The data, collected from multiple daily orbits, relate to an area that extends from northern Europe to the southern Sahara, which includes the entire Mediterranean Basin. One of the goal of this project is the free distribution of these satellite data to the interested research centres which work in the field of monitoring of environmental topics including observations on dust transport, sea temperature, vegetation stress, large geological structures, etc..
