The paper analyzes the performance of electrochromic glazing that are at variable transparency; at the time, they are the more interesting components for the realization of the architectural contemporary envelope. They allow a good transparency and a large shield to solar radiation. The paper summarizes the first phase of a research project conducted by the Department of Architecture, University of Cagliari, which aims to explore the use of these materials through a simulation with appropriate computer codes. We have simulated the performances of the use of electrochromic glazing, in terms of optical and energy, in an office building in Cagliari. The innovative nature of the work is to use a computer code that operates under dynamic mode and also to assess the economic feasibility of a redevelopment of a glass envelope.

Abstract
The paper analyzes the performance of electrochromic glazing that are at variable transparency; at the time, they are the more interesting components for the realization of the architectural contemporary envelope. They allow a good transparency and a large shield to solar radiation. The paper summarizes the first phase of a research project conducted by the Department of Architecture, University of Cagliari, which aims to explore the use of these materials through a simulation with appropriate computer codes. We have simulated the performances of the use of electrochromic glazing, in terms of optical and energy, in an office building in Cagliari. The innovative nature of the work is to use a computer code that operates under dynamic mode and also to assess the economic feasibility of a redevelopment of a glass envelope.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
