In June 2013, the area northwestern to the open archaeological site of Nora was surveyed by integrated geophysical techniques aiming at finding of buried structures both natural and anthropic, and to discriminate the modern military from the archaeological traces. Three geophysical methods of certain reliability in archeology were adopted, exploiting technological developments for the expeditious and accurate reconnaissance of large areas: • Ground penetrating radar prospecting with adequate overlapping of the GPS tracks using real-time display, made with multichannel instrumentation both in standard configurations and adapted to difficult areas; • Electromagnetic prospecting in frequency domain to map the electrical conductivity at various depths, with GPS positioning system integrated; • Electrical resistivity prospecting with tomographic acquisitions on parallel lines with enough resolution to distinguish archaeological structures such as roads, walls, tanks. Preliminary results state that the presence of buried archaeological features is more than probable in many parts of the area.
