Varma and Wendler recently proposed a “population-based treatment indicator” as a way to solve the issue related to the treatment for people lacking advanced directives or designated surrogates. This computer-based tool should unravel a patient’s choice by relying on the treatment preference of comparable individuals, using a decisional algorithm based on the patient’s main features. Regarding this issue we consider as the main goal of the patient-physician relationship the good of the patient and respecting his/her wishes ,therefore we don’t consider this tool as a reliable technique to serve the patient’s rights.

Abstract
Varma and Wendler recently proposed a “population-based treatment indicator” as a way to solve the issue related to the treatment for people lacking advanced directives or designated surrogates. This computer-based tool should unravel a patient’s choice by relying on the treatment preference of comparable individuals, using a decisional algorithm based on the patient’s main features. Regarding this issue we consider as the main goal of the patient-physician relationship the good of the patient and respecting his/her wishes ,therefore we don’t consider this tool as a reliable technique to serve the patient’s rights.I metadati presenti in IRIS UNICA sono rilasciati con licenza Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal, mentre i file delle pubblicazioni sono protetti da diritto d'autore, salvo diversa indicazione.
