The presence of Pt(II) allows pre-organisation of 4,40-dicarboxamidoindole-2,20-bipyridine, enhancing anion affinity with the resulting complex displaying selectivity for dihydrogen phosphate in DMSO-d6–0.5% water. Moreover the Pt(II) complex behaves as a colorimetic sensor for fluoride.

Abstract
