A modular approach is presented for data management of an integrated VLSI CAD system. The core of the system is a commercial, relational DBMS (INGRES). A proper database schema, carefully designed using a formal methodology of information analysis and supported by automatic tools, helps to bridge the gap between CAD technique demands and the facilities offered by a commercial DBMS. Other characteristics of the system are a tool for managing information local to application programs using a high-level query language and a database interface, which is a set of procedures handling the communications between the database and the various tools.

Abstract
A modular approach is presented for data management of an integrated VLSI CAD system. The core of the system is a commercial, relational DBMS (INGRES). A proper database schema, carefully designed using a formal methodology of information analysis and supported by automatic tools, helps to bridge the gap between CAD technique demands and the facilities offered by a commercial DBMS. Other characteristics of the system are a tool for managing information local to application programs using a high-level query language and a database interface, which is a set of procedures handling the communications between the database and the various tools.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
