In 1860, at the time of the unification of Italy, important rules regarding the education system were issued. New mathematics syllabus for grammar schools were developed by the mathematician Luigi Cremona (1830-1903). While doing some research in the teaching of mathematics in Italy, the author of this article found an anonymous piece of writing in a school magazine, which can be attributed to Cremona and which is a review of these syllabuses. The piece of writing is here presented in full, introduced by a short preface and complete with a comment.
