Abstract
Epics and classical literature made full use of the possibilities offered by the Sanskrit language, especially the remarkable polysemy of the words and the astonishing wealth of synonyms available for each single designation. The present lexical study is focused on the terms for the sea, which according to Dandin is one of the canonical subjects of the Mahakavya . The texts submitted to the analysis are the Ramayana and one of the major mahakavya works, the Raghuvamsa ; both of which are also closely connected in terms of subject-matter, especially as far as concerns the Cantos X-XV of the Ragh., which recount the complete story of the Ramayana.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
