Abstract

Site Evolution of Su Cunventu in Villacidro. The urban site of “Su Cunventu” in Villacidro, a small town in Southwestern Sardinia, provides an interesting example of the reuse of a system of historic buildings and urban spaces, located within a fragile historical urban context. In its current organisation, the site offers a “re-reading” of the urban landscape, that can be understood as a stratified palimpsest. Placed in a dominant position, the site of Su Cunventu defines one of the landmarks that characterise the town. A natural vantage point, the hill of “Su Cunventu” has occupied an advantageous place through the historical anthropological process, representing a privileged place from which to control the territory. Today the site is occupied by the municipal town hall.
