La descrizione delle emozioni nel Meraugis de Portlesguez

This paper examines the vocabulary related to the semantic field of emotions in Meraugis de Portlesguez. This romance dramatizes the theoretical debate on the primacy of female inner-emotional side rather than the mere external one. In the excerpts analysed in the paper, through the gap between the emotions and reactions attributed to characters - often completely unexpected and inadequate, if compared to the classic situations of Arthurian romance ˗ and the expectations of readers / listeners, Raoul de Houdenc reworks in parodic perspective the topic of emotions in the courtly romance. In doing so, he offers his readers the tools for reflection on some key themes of the courtly romance, as the love-prowess relationship, or the one between men and women.

L’articolo esamina il lessico relativo al campo semantico delle emozioni nel Meraugis de Portlesguez, romanzo “a tesi” che drammatizza il dibattito teorico sulla preminenza del côté interiore-affettivo femminile rispetto alla mera esteriorità. Nelle sezioni analizzate del testo, attraverso lo scarto esistente tra le emozioni e le reazioni attribuite ai personaggi ˗ spesso del tutto inattese e inadeguate rispetto alle situazioni classiche del romanzo ˗ e le aspettative dei lettori/ascoltatori, Raoul de Houdenc rielabora in chiave parodica la “topica delle emozioni” del romanzo arturiano, offrendo così ai lettori gli strumenti per la riflessione su alcuni temi-chiave dell’universo cortese, come il rapporto amore-prodezza, o quello fra mondo femminile e mondo maschile.
