The essay deals with a relevant example of (re-)construction of the collective music memory within a group of very small villages in Balagne, a province in the north-west part of the Corsica. The local brotherhood polyphony, that disappeared during the 20th century because of the depopulation of that area and of the adverse attitude of the catholic religious authorities following the “modernist” wave of the II Vatican Council, had a falsobordone three parts music structure on a Latin text. Since the later part of the ‘70s it begun to be the subject of a special revival interest led by a group of young persons who took the inspiration from u riacquistu, a political-cultural movement arose in the middle of the ‘60s with the goal to rediscover the native and particular aspects of the island culture. The (re-) construction of the music repertories has been followed by the (re-)construction of their ritual contexts and of the related brotherhoods, realized by drawing to the oral tales and memories, all done without any contribution by the local clergy. In the first part I will describe the contemporary performance scenarios and then I’ll focus on the processes of (re-)construction of the micro-identities of each village in the Province that deals with the polyphonic practice and I will discuss how, by means of these (re-)construction processes, those small communities try to re-construct the rules of their collective life, to re-build shared values and strengthen their unity.
