This essay presents three case studies / will focus on three scientific questions of the time that illustrate the debates being conducted by some of the most illustrious members of the Accademia dei Lincei, including its founder, the prince Federico Ceci, the botanist Johann Faber, and the naturalist Fabio Colonna. The academy also counted among its members the scientist Galileo Galilei and the collector Cassiano dal Pozzo, and thus represented a significant expression of the fruitful intertwining of the methodus philologica and natural history during the first half of the seventeenth century.
