Abstract
After the defeat of Sedan (1870) established the frontier between the French Third Republic and the German Empire, with Alsace and Lorraine becoming part of the Reich under the name Reichsland Elsaß-Lothringen. From that moment,“the drama of the lost provinces” fed the patriotic sentiment and nationalism of the French. This contribution, dedicated to the political sense of territoriality, explores "La France de l’Est" (Alsace-Lorraine), published in 1917 and the last work of the founder of the French school of géographie humaine, Paul Vidal de la Blache. After being forgotten for sixty years, this book was rediscovered in the 70s by Yves Lacoste.Very different from Vidal's previous work, "La France de l’Est" indeed appears to be a geopolitical text, starting from the Tableau de la géographie de la France (1903).We have to add a third to these two modes of territorial-political nexus configuration: the relations of domination that France has with its colonies. This paper seeks to clarify the triangle of narrative identities through the role that this work has within the epis- temological framework of geographical thought of its author.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
