This essay tries to recognize some constant factors in the African Christianity of the first five centuries through the literary sources. Preliminarily, it highlights the pluralistic character of the early Christian communities, as regards disciplinary codes, liturgical practices as well as some dogmatic details; then, a certain radicalism in observing the ecclesiastical discipline and moral doctrine is reckoned among the main features of the African church. Furthermore, this study explores the possibility of establishing a relation between the modalistic tendencies, which were quite strong in Africa, and the henotheism that is typical of the Punic culture. Finally, it points out the important role of Christian Africa in creating a specific Latin speech of theology and liturgy.

Furthermore, this study explores the possibility of establishing a relation between the modalistic tendencies, which were quite strong in Africa, and the henotheism that is typical of the Punic culture. Finally, it points out the important role of Christian Africa in creating a specific Latin speech of theology and liturgy.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
