Éric Rohmer writer (1943-1987): literature and space The subject of the thesis the analysis of the literary production of the French film-maker Éric Rohmer, most commonly known for his work as a film critic and director. His literary work consists of a novel, Élisabeth, published under the pseudonym of Gilles Cordier, and of the series of short stories Six contes moraux and Friponnes de porcelaine. Rohmer’s literary production ends with the publication of a theatrical play in seven acts , Le trio en mi-bémol, a title that hints at the dynamics of the creative process and the attention to details in the construction of dialogues, also with regards to the cinematic release. The investigation has been carried out through the analysis of the specific aspect of space, involving the geocritic means of analysis. Adopting this peculiar perspective offered the chance to collocate Rohmer’s work inside the broader theme of urban landscape, that sprang out in French literature from the XIX century, with the work of Balzac and Baudelaire, to the most contemporary authors of the XXI century. On a wider sense, the importance of space lies in its fundamental role in shaping the lives of the protagonists, that evolve as persons through the places they visits, changing their attitudes or regaining facets of their existences nearly forgotten.
