The focus of this article is reconstructing the work done to re-order the private archive of Antonio Giolitti, who was member of the PCI until 1957, then of the PSI until 1987, Budget Minister and member of the Executive Commission of the European Economic Community from 1977 to 1984. In the first part we briefy examine Giolitti’s political history, from his youth until his death in 2010. In the second part we analyze the characteristics of his private archive, which is conserved at the Basso Foundation in Rome, the various stages of reorganization, cataloguing and use of the Giolitti fund, with particular attention to sections such as the letters and political writings.
