The 19th century Industrial Architecture in Europe and the Monteponi case. From the Construction History to the guidelines for the recovery.

The thesis aims to investigate the Construction History of the case study of Monteponi mine, through the available historic and archival resources, in order to identify it as an excellent example of industrial heritage of the Sardinian mining epopee of the 19th century and to acknowledge its linguistic and constructive features in the International context of the industrial heritage through the definition of the most important events that characterize its formal and constructive development. We believe in fact that this case plays a key-role in the definition of the formal and technical knowledge of the features of the industrial architecture thanks to the divulgation and application of the technical and scientific principles of the 19th century building culture. The comparison with other European examples of mining heritage allows to confront and propose the strategies for the recuperation and valorization of Monteponi's heritage at the light of the experiences of reuse and safeguarding in the International scenario.
