The crisis of European consciousness is pathological at least within two aspects: (1) under the aspect of memory because of the paradoxical effect of excess of memory, on the one hand, and a lack of memory or excess of memory forgetting, on the other; (2) in relation to the future, that is to say in relation to the horizon of waiting. This double pathology has an impact on our time. Paul Ricoeur’s proposal of solution is based on the pathologies themselves.

Abstract
