Isole per pensare: la Garbage Island e The World

This essay has three main goals. The first is to address the issue of “extreme islands”, such as elusive islands or artificial islands. The second is to analyze, through the cases of Garbage Island and The World, the manifestation of phenomena such as the environmental crisis and capitalism. The third is to reflect, thanks to the way in which these “extreme islands” produce meaning, on semiotics and more specifically on its structural and encyclopedic logics. Overall, we will try to show how contemporary islands offer themselves as powerful tools of thought, reflexivity, action on the world.

Questo saggio ha tre obbiettivi. Il primo è affrontare la questione delle “isole estreme”, come le isole introvabili o le isole artificiali. Il secondo è analizzare, attraverso le isole che sceglieremo come casi, la Garbage Island e The World, il manifestarsi di fenomeni quali la crisi ambientale e il capitalismo. Il terzo è riflettere, grazie al modo in cui queste “isole estreme” producono senso, sulla semiotica e più specificamente sulle sue logiche strutturali ed enciclopediche. Nel complesso proveremo a mostrare come le isole contemporanee si offrano come potenti strumenti di pensiero, riflessività, azione sul mondo.
