Dogmatica e «criteri basilari» della storia dell’arte. Wölfflin negli scritti di Betti

The relevance assigned by Betti to Wölfflin’s Grundbegriffe within the technical interpretation has not attracted the interest of scholars so far. The following pages try to offer a first analysis, according to the main points of Betti’s reading and the problems that emerge: Betti’s reception of Wölfflin’s “aisthetic” approach, the problem of formalism and the role played by the Grundbegriffe within the relationship between Problemgeschichte and Geistesgeschichte, the problem of the distinction between a “first” and a “second” Wölfflin, the question of the value freedom of art historiography.

Il rilievo assegnato da Betti ai Grundbegriffe di Wölfflin all’interno dell’interpretazione tecnica non ha goduto finora dell’interesse degli studiosi. Le pagine seguenti tentano di offrirne una prima analisi, secondo i punti principali in cui si snoda la lettura di Betti e i problemi che vi emergono: la ricezione bettiana dell’approccio “aistetico” di Wölfflin, il problema del formalismo e il ruolo occupato dai Grundbegriffe nel rapporto tra Problemgeschichte e Geistesgeschichte, il problema della distinzione tra un “primo” e un “secondo” Wölfflin, la questione dell’avalutatività della storiografia artistica.
