Apuleius Mutinensis: su un inedito codice della Biblioteca Estense

Apuleius Mutinensis: about an unpublished manuscript of the Estense Library · This article brings to light and analyses a manuscript of Apuleius’ rhetorical works, so far escaped to the attention of scholars: the ms alfa.Q.5.27 (= Lat. 214), kept at the Biblioteca Estense Universitaria in Modena, which I have designated by the siglum M. On the basis of an accurate collation with F, φ and mss belonging to the 4 classes of recentiores, we can conclude that M is very close to the mss of the best class, the I (especially U), but it does not depend directly on any of them; therefore, it is an important and reliable witness, as well as U, E or A, and, moreover, it is often more correct of them. So, this study makes the most of a manuscript before unknown, which, even if does not subvert the stemma of Apuleius’rhetorica, offers a not negligible contribution and deserves to be included among the best witnesses.

Questo articolo analizza un manoscritto finora sfuggito all’attenzione degli studiosi apuleiani, mai menzionato in studi ed edizioni. Si tratta del ms. alfa.Q.5.27 (= Lat. 214), custodito alla Biblioteca Estense Universitaria di Modena, che ho designato tramite il siglum M. Sulla base di un’accurata collazione rispetto a F, φ e a mss appartenenti alle 4 classi di recentiores, possiamo concludere che M è molto prossimo ai mss della classe migliore, la I (in specie U), ma non dipende direttamente da nessuno di essi, dunque è un testimone di pari attendibilità rispetto a U, E o A. Rispetto ad essi, anzi, è spesso più corretto e deve essere frutto del lavoro di un copista abbastanza attento e forse non ignaro di latino. Questo studio, dunque, valorizza un manoscritto finora ignoto, che, pur non sconvolgendo la stemmatica delle opere oratorie apuleiane, tuttavia vi apporta un contributo non trascurabile e merita di essere annoverato tra i migliori testimoni.
