In this article we discuss the opinions of the modern commentators of Trajan’s Column, historians and artists. In particular, we are interested in the comments to the very last scene that concludes the figurative narration of the second Dacian war. These comments vary according to the cultural and ideological background of the commentators. The main issue is the importance of the Roman and/or Dacian elements in the formation of the Romanian people. Most historians believed that Trajan’s Column could offer answers to this question.
