The XIV summit of the BRICS and the meeting of the Business Forum that preceded it have assumed relevant geopolitical significance in light of the international crisis gripping the world following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Not only was it the first international forum that allowed Putin’s Russia to break its growing isolation, but, at the same time, it allowed Xi’s China to get back into the game after the pandemic crisis that seriously damaged its image. The Chinese leader also took the opportunity to re-propose himself at the helm of a world order capable of countering a new US hegemony and Western mechanisms led by Washington.
