The purpose of this study was to investigate risk perceptions, emotion regulation and some personality traits in a mixed sample of young involved in extreme sports. Participants were 102 young people (71 males and 31 females) aged between 16 and 28 years (M=22.23, SD=3.31): 49 practicing different extreme sports and 53 non practicing. Participants completed Brief Sensation Seeking Scale, Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, Behavioral Activation Scale/Behavioral Inhibition Scale (Physical Risk Assessment Inventory,. In order to evaluate the differences between the sub-samples we have conducted a multivariate analysis of variance using group and gender as independent variables,. results show that young people who practice extreme sports have a greater impulsivity, attribute a positive affect at dangerous experiences and show a greater propensity for thrill and adventure. Women seem to represent a more healthy model to cope with the extreme sports adventure, since they show a greater balance between the behavioral activation systems.
