Soddyite, (UO2)2SiO4 ·2H2O, occurs as yellow, elongated and flattened mosaic crystals at the Arcu Su Linnarbu mine, south Sardinia, Italy, associated with uranophane and several uranyl phosphates. The mineral is orthorhombic, space group Fddd, with a = 8.302(2), b=11.225(2), c=18.649(5)Å, V=1737.9(7)Å3. The strongest lines in the X-ray powder pattern are [d(I/Io)(hkl)] 6.29(86)(111), 4.56(70)(113), 3.34(100)(131), 2.717(45)(026 and 224), 2.095(34)(333), 1.862(31)(246). A microprobe analysis gives the empirical formula (UO2)2.04(SiO4) 0.96·2.12H2O.
