Fields of Lagrangian (TL) and Eulerian (TE) time scales of the turbulence within a regular array of two-dimensional obstacles of unit aspect ratio have been determined by means of a water-channel experiment reproducing the atmospheric boundary layer in neutral conditions. It has been found that there is a strong spatial inhomogeneity both of the scales and of their ratio, β= TL/ TE. The results can provide useful information on numerical modelling of tracer dispersion in urban areas.

Abstract
Fields of Lagrangian (TL) and Eulerian (TE) time scales of the turbulence within a regular array of two-dimensional obstacles of unit aspect ratio have been determined by means of a water-channel experiment reproducing the atmospheric boundary layer in neutral conditions. It has been found that there is a strong spatial inhomogeneity both of the scales and of their ratio, β= TL/ TE. The results can provide useful information on numerical modelling of tracer dispersion in urban areas.File in questo prodotto:
