This study concerns a case of a 74 years old man who underwent a radical cystectomy since a cancer of the urinary bladder. After about one year from surgery he performed a coastal cruise lasting about 3 weeks while, every morning, were remotely assessed his cardio-metabolic variables by an internet of thing equipment. At cruise end, the subject showed 22% increase, at rest, in the ventricle stroke volume accompanied by +14% in myocardial contractility with -3% in peripheral vascular resistances and -4% in mean arterial blood pressure. Moreover, in the last days of cruise he showed an increase of about 2.5 times of the sailing metabolic cost to sustain the high demanding of metabolic power despite occurring higher peak of energy costs while rating of perceived exertion was the same as at inning cruise. Confirmation of cardio-metabolic improvements of our sailor is also provided by data from cardio-pulmonary tests at the cycle ergometer which show cruise-dependent increases in the peaks of: oxygen consumption (6%), aerobic efficiency (20%), pulmonary ventilation (18%) and arterial blood’s oxygen fraction (13%). Cardiac mechanics also benefited from the cruise since rest heart’s mechanical work and efficiency had increased by 17% and 45% respectively. So coastal cruise could improve health related quality of life in cystectomised patients. Abstract
