In 1983, just over thirty years after the begin- ning of the first phase of tourist settlement on the Sardinian coast, the American geographer Richard Price published his doctoral thesis Una geografia del turismo: paesaggi e insediamenti umani nelle coste della Sardegna. The research- er, contemplating the peculiar aspects of coastal colonization, outlines a first evolutionary analy- sis, outlining the design features and hypothe- sizing lines of development for the entire coastal strip of the island. Forty years later, this study intends to propose a critical rereading, with the aim of discussing the urban and architectural as- pects and verifying the characteristics of conti- nuity and persistence capable of influencing the subsequent evolutionary routes and, at the same time, highlighting their unexpected drifts
