The article offers a reasoned study of the main allegorical sources existing in the texture of the Voie d’Enfer et de Paradis by Pierre de l’Hôpital (1315-1336), limited to ancient French literature. This investigation reveals how the different modes of reuse and re-functionalisation of the compositions present in the author’s literary memory converge, unanimously, in the successful attempt to “give life”, in the text, to peripheral narrative traces or details that in the models were given as apparently residual suggestions (this is the case of the derivation of the hypostases of the vices from the bas-reliefs adorning the walls of the garden of Déduit, in the Roman de la Rose). That said, the intertextual dynamics concerning the Voie d’Enfer et de Paradis constitute, on closer inspection, the first act of a transition from the literature of allegorical journeys to the theatre of morality plays.
Il contributo offre uno studio ragionato delle principali fonti allegoriche vigenti nella testura della Voie d’Enfer et de Paradis di Pierre de l’Hôpital (1315-1336), limitatamente alla produzione d’oïl. Dall’indagine emerge, soprattutto, come le diverse modalità di riuso e ri-funzionalizzazione delle opere presenti nella memoria letteraria dell’autore convergano, unanimemente, nel riuscito tentativo di “dar vita”, nel testo, a tracce narrative periferiche o dettagli che nei modelli si davano come semplici suggestioni apparentemente residuali (è il caso esemplare della derivazione delle ipostasi dei vizi dai bassorilievi che ornano le mura del giardino di Déduit, nel Roman de la Rose). In ciò, le dinamiche intertestuali inerenti alla Voie d’Enfer et de Paradis costituiscono, a ben vedere, il primo atto di un passaggio dalla letteratura dei viaggi allegorici al teatro delle moralità.
