This article looks at cultural relations between Italy and the USSR from a long-term perspective, taking in the whole of the Soviet historical parable. Since the 1990s, historians have delved deeper into the institutional and political dimensions of relations between the two countries, taking advantage of the archival revolution brought about by the collapse of the USSR. It is only more recently that they have begun to study the cultural dimension of these relations, in very different political, economic and ideological contexts, from fascism to the Republic. The aim here is to review the main expressions of these relations, looking at both “high” culture and popular culture; to identify the actors, private and public, involved; and to try to assess the influence of these relations on the more general links between the two countries.

Abstract
This article looks at cultural relations between Italy and the USSR from a long-term perspective, taking in the whole of the Soviet historical parable. Since the 1990s, historians have delved deeper into the institutional and political dimensions of relations between the two countries, taking advantage of the archival revolution brought about by the collapse of the USSR. It is only more recently that they have begun to study the cultural dimension of these relations, in very different political, economic and ideological contexts, from fascism to the Republic. The aim here is to review the main expressions of these relations, looking at both “high” culture and popular culture; to identify the actors, private and public, involved; and to try to assess the influence of these relations on the more general links between the two countries.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
