Our proposal aims to examine the analogical process underlying the formation and structuring of new fixed expressions in contemporary French. We place ourselves within the framework of analogical linguistics (Monneret, 2004 et 2014), cognitive psychology (Hofstadter et al., 1995 ; Gentner et al., 2001) and cognitive linguistics (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980 and 1999). We will analyze polylexical sequences in the light of several concepts: the regularizing and categorical functions of analogy, the question of compositionality and semantic motivation.
