With this work we will report on catastrophic degradation of high power LEDs for general lighting, horticulture, and automotive. Results indicate that while gradual degradation is limited at mild driving condition, catastrophic degradation can arise suddenly as the stress condition increases. The presented results illustrate failure analysis of encapsulant, package, and chip of white and monochromatic LEDs and perspectives to limit these issues.

Abstract

With this work we will report on catastrophic degradation of high power LEDs for general lighting, horticulture, and automotive. Results indicate that while gradual degradation is limited at mild driving condition, catastrophic degradation can arise suddenly as the stress condition increases. The presented results illustrate failure analysis of encapsulant, package, and chip of white and monochromatic LEDs and perspectives to limit these issues.
