Aim. Some authors described an increasement in spleen dimensions in patients with autoimmune disease during reactivation phase or in those cases when the disease in not under polypharmacotherapy control. Our purpose was to evaluate, by using several imaging techniques spleen dimensional changes in auto immunological diseases. Methods. We analyzed 406 patients (with and without autoimmune disease) by using US, CT and MR in order to compare and evaluate splenic changes in auto immunological diseases. We grouped patient for imaging technique used and for presence absence of auto immunological disease. Results. We observed a spleen dimensional increasement during the acute or reacutization phase of an autoimmunological disease (P = 0.01). In CT splenic dimensions were 10.68 ± 1.03 and 8.13 ± 0.91 for acute phase and remission phase respectively. In MR splenic dimensions were 10.91 ± 1.07 cm and 8.26 cm ± 0.46 respectively. Conclusion. The morphologic-dimensional evaluation of the spleen in patients with autoimmune disease is important: in these patients there is a statistical significant increasement of the spleen diameters.

Abstract
Conclusion. The morphologic-dimensional evaluation of the spleen in patients with autoimmune disease is important: in these patients there is a statistical significant increasement of the spleen diameters.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
