The purpose of this article is to provide a reflection on norms’ intersemiotic translation. After a brief introduction to the concept of intersemiotic translation and its applicability to normative phenomena, this paper will focus on three ways of translating norms intersemiotically. The article will focus on three possible types of intersemiotic translatants: drawings, material artifacts, and digital artifacts. Finally, we will examine the phenomena in which the deontic dimension has been transposed into a causal dimension, such as in some cases of regulation without rules.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to provide a reflection on norms’ intersemiotic translation. After a brief introduction to the concept of intersemiotic translation and its applicability to normative phenomena, this paper will focus on three ways of translating norms intersemiotically. The article will focus on three possible types of intersemiotic translatants: drawings, material artifacts, and digital artifacts. Finally, we will examine the phenomena in which the deontic dimension has been transposed into a causal dimension, such as in some cases of regulation without rules.
