In his essay Scienza giuridica tra essere e dover essere (Legal science between ‘Is’ and ‘Ought’) (1968), Norberto Bobbio addresses the issue of whether legal science is a normative science. This paper proposes rereading Bobbio’s essay according to two research directions, both of which concern normativity. The first research direction concerns the ontology of the norm, and the second research direction concerns the normative nature of legal science.
