Shaping the question of being and time more initially. Heidegger's destruction of ontological difference (1935−1940) This paper reconstructs Heidegger’s self-criticism of the concept of ontological difference between 1935 and 1940. What is usually regarded as a doctrinal cornerstone of Heidegger’s thought, ontological difference, was actually treated by him as an inherently problematic concept. This is due to the ontifying and equalising character of the act of distinguishing. This paper argues that it was this aporetic character of ontological difference that led Heidegger to think of being (Seyn) as Enowning (Ereignis).
