The paper presents an empirical study on AI-assisted text production among Italian-speaking students of German as a foreign language (DaF), in which participants were tasked with writing a tourist brochure about the sights of Calabria. The paper first provides an overview of existing research on the integration of AI into teaching and learning processes. Particular attention is paid to possible application scenarios of ChatGPT in language instruction and the initial effects on learners’ performance. Subsequently, the research design of the present study and the modeling of the task setting are described in detail, followed by a presentation of the initial results. Based on these findings, several conclusions can be drawn for the design of AI-supported task settings in the field of DaF.

Der Beitrag stellt eine empirische Studie zur KI-gestützten Textproduktion bei italienischsprachigen DaF-Studierenden vor, im Rahmen derer eine touristische Broschüre zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten Kalabriens verfasst werden sollte. Zu diesem Zweck wird zunächst ein Forschungsüberblick über bestehende Studien zum Einbezug der KI in Lehr-Lernprozesse geliefert. Dabei wird insbesondere auf mögliche Einsatzszenarien von ChatGPT im Sprachunterricht und erste daraus resultierende Auswirkungen auf die Leistungen der Lernenden eingegangen. Danach werden das Forschungsdesign der vorliegenden Studie und die Modellierung des Aufgabensettings ausführlich vorgestellt, um anschließend die ersten Ergebnisse zu präsentieren. Daraus lassen sich einige Schlussfolgerungen für die Gestaltung KI-gestützter Aufgabensettings im DaF-Bereich ableiten.
