The article examines the ancient edition of Hipponax. It was divided into two books, the first containing the skazons, the second the epodes (and perhaps other metres); book 1 began with a poem accusing Boupalos, who was mentioned in the opening line. Both these editorial choices fronted two of the characteristic traits of Hipponactean poetics: the skazon and Boupalos. In so doing, the editor used the structure of the edition to render in book form the ethos of Hipponax.
