This paper studies, for the case of Sardinian municipalities, the effects of regional policy transfers under the “second pillar” of the CAP 2000-2006 on the change in employment in the primary sector. Given the characteristics of the treatment variable, which is continuous, the Generalized Propensity Score (Hirano and Imbens, 2004; Imai and Van Dijk, 2004) is employed. The results obtained suggest that the policy has had a positive and significant role in stemming the fall in agricultural employment.

Abstract

This paper studies, for the case of Sardinian municipalities, the effects of regional policy transfers under the “second pillar” of the CAP 2000-2006 on the change in employment in the primary sector. Given the characteristics of the treatment variable, which is continuous, the Generalized Propensity Score (Hirano and Imbens, 2004; Imai and Van Dijk, 2004) is employed. The results obtained suggest that the policy has had a positive and significant role in stemming the fall in agricultural employment.
