Theoretical Background: within the theoretical-clinical framework of intersubjectivity it has been hypothesized that the characteristics and the quality of the dyadic exchange between mother and child in the first years of life is negatively affected by the mother's emotional and psychological difficulties and states of mind with respect to unresolved trauma or unresolved loss. These difficulties seem to impair the ability of the dyad to establish fluid communication patterns. Objectives and method: This paper aims to assess the profiles of interactive patterns in the mother-child relationship in the context of feeding (through SVIA and FCM ) taking into account the presence of unresolved loss in the history of the mothers (through AAI), and the psychopathology risk of maternal (with the SCL-90/R) in the presence of typical development of non clinical children (verified with the CBCL). Results: The data showed that mothers with indices of irresolution of mourning show higher values in the dimensions of depression, hostility and interpersonal sensitivity and that, compared to other mothers, interactive exchanges with their children are more maladaptive and characterized by Asynchrony, Intrusiveness, and Low Relational Reciprocity. Conclusion: the characteristics of caregiving of mothers with unresolved loss experiences in childhood seem to indicate that mourning can be a specific risk factor for the occurrence of maladaptive affective-communicative patterns.
