Abstract
According to Sylvain Auroux the studies on logic in the Enlighten- ment Age might be better understood as a scientific research programme whose aim was to discover the fundamental operations of thought. However, in order to achieve that end an apparent regressive phase was necessary: to come back to Aristotle in an attempt to improve his syllogistic method. The argument about the discovery of quantification of the predicate arisen be- tween Augustus De Morgan and William Hamilton shows what kind of steps were needed to complete the enlightenment design. Keywords: Quantification of predicate, Complementation, Universe of dis- course, Augustus De Morgan, William Hamilton, Sylvain Auroux.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
