La chiesa in Africa tra evangelizzazione e inculturazione

This article analyses the relationship  between the Catholic Church and the  African  States  born  as  independent  institutions  after  the  process  of  decolonization, which begun in Africa  since  the  1960s.  During  this  period  the Church was shaken by the Second  Vatican Council, a revolutionary project resulting from the direct will of  pope John XXIII and further developed after his death by Paul V. The  Second  Vatican  Council  brought  about a new spirit and a new interest  towards the relationship with the African continent, as clearly testified by  the attention paid to the issue by Paul  VI and summarized in the document  Africae Terrarum (1967). 

A seguito del Concilio Vaticano II la  Chiesa cattolica ha guardato con rinnovato  interesse  l’evoluzione  della  realtà ecclesiale in Africa. È in particolare durante il pontificato di Paolo  VI  che  ciò  si  esplicita,  come  dimostrano la lettera apostolica Africae Terrarum (1967) e lo storico viaggio in  Uganda (1969), il primo compiuto da  un papa in Africa. Saranno questi due  episodi a incidere sullo sviluppo della Chiesa locale, che si troverà ad affrontare le nuove sfide imposte dal  mutare  dei  tempi  alle  società  dei  nuovi stati che si erano formati a seguito del processo di decolonizzazione.
