Only in 2011, the military expenditure of the Southeast Asian Nations reached 24.5 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 13.5% compared to 2010. In this scenario, Singapore and Malaysia emerge as two of the most interesting cases. In 2012, Singapore allocated 9.7 billion U.S. dollars to defense. In addition, the city-state has developed excellent industrial asset for military development. Malaysia, with a 2012 defense budget of 4.37 billion U.S. dollars, has embarked on the path of intensely modernizing its armed forces beyond the work of other regional actors.
