The present article has been selected in the framework of the “Premio Treves” by the evaluatory Commission appointed by the Grand Orient of Italy (30th October, 2008). The authors, thanks to the “Associazione culturale Giorgio Asproni” of Cagliari (Sardinia), have developed their researches in the archives of Tunis and of the G.O.I. in Rome. Tunis results to be an interesting country for the role which Lodges assumed within Tunisian society and for the diffusion of ideals such as Progress, Development and Modernization. Masonic values had also a considerable impact not only on the Italian Risorgimento, but also against Fascism.
