We studied the mitotic and meiotic chromosomes of Palinurus mauritanicus (Decapoda, Palinuridae. C and fluorochrome banding allowed to localize and characterize constitutive heterochromatin. Supernumerary chromosomes have been identified, their presence could account for the interindividual numeric variability observed.
