A novel compression algorithm suitable for remote sensing applications is proposed. Exploiting the high density of edge points, textured regions are identified and removed from the encoding process. The rest of the image is encoded in the wavelet domain. Experimental results show significant improvements compared to standard coding approaches.

Abstract
