This paper aims to provide a contribution to the understanding of the extended enterprise's concept. By making use of a Business Economics approach, the structural and dynamic attributes of the extended enterprise are analysed. From an organizational point the extended enterprise can be depicted as an advanced interconnected network of firms, structured around a focal enterprise. Within an extended enterprise collaboration, process and information integration are key components in managing the interorganizational dependency that develops among members.
