First record of Epinephelus marginatus (Lowe, 1834) (Pisces, Serranidae) post-larvae is reported for the Mediterranean. Along the southern coast of Sardinia (Gulf of Cagliari), on September and October 2010, two specimens of dusky grouper were collected using light trap. According to the meristic and biometric parameters, the specimens were classified as post-larvae. One of the two was reared and the succeeding ontogenetic development is described.
