This paper focuses on some problems about cultural heritage and the processes of heritage preservation. Through a brief historic reconstruction on the inclusions and exclusions that the concept of cultural heritage has involved so far, from the aesthetic traditions to the inclusion of the intangible heritage in the international legislation, a reflective anthropologic discourse is made about the constructive relation between places, memories and the past. It also turns the attention to the question of the active partecipation of the anthropologist in the new processes aimed at preserving indigenous knowledge.
